[HTML][HTML] DNase I hypersensitive site II of the human growth hormone locus control region mediates an essential and distinct long-range enhancer function

Background: A series of distal DNA elements regulates the human growth hormone gene.
Results: Deletion of one of these elements, HSII, results in reduced growth hormone
expression and changes in several activating phenomena at the locus. Conclusion: HSII is a
unique regulator of growth hormone expression. Significance: Elucidating complex
regulation determinants is imperative to the understanding of metazoan gene expression.
